Guile:

I've been lurking around the forums here for a month or so now. I originally came here due to an interest in some of the chatterbots I'd seen around the 'net. I'm a programmer by trade (at least, I will be in the near future; I'm in a DBA position right now), and I was interested in implementing some of the things I'd seen in some future AI project of my own (no real plans, just sounds fun to play with). Eventually I found programs like Answerpad, and started using them with various agents. That was when I found (quickly) the free downloads on your site.

I'm impressed with the agents you've done thus far. My favorite is Kirei; she's adorable, and so well-detailed. I haven't purchased Vanessa or Nicole (yet), but they both look beautiful. The pictures you've posted of Denise are absolutely stunning. She's truly a work of art.

Tonight, I read through all of this thread, and decided I had to register so I could comment on your work. You've done an amazing job with Denise visually, and your dedication to the coding of your application is inspiring. In all the time that has passed since your first posts about the UVHI, you remain enthusiastic as ever about the project, even through financing changes, the discontinuing of MS Agents, and hospitalization! This thread has told quite a tale. It's very comforting to know that there are still people/companies in my field who are more interested in community, sharing of knowledge, and producing a quality product than in profit and/or market saturation. Your desire to release a finished product that doesn't compromise on the features you want to see AND makes better use of system resources is a shining testament to that. (You've also piqued my interest in Delphi, by the way. ;) )

It is with fascination and eager curiosity that I anxiously await the beta/release of Denise. My hat is off to you, sir.

Thanks Ron and thanks Saurian for your patient to read all the posts and so nice words. Yes, the challenges were not small !! and you are right about my passion, I think this was one of the reasons I could have got all the support I needed to keep going even in the hardest times.

I also always like to thank this forum and the people here. I started this project here, and kept my fidelity to it since then. No other place has my posts about it. Just like a big family of good people looking at the same direction.

Please stay with us with your comments and support.

Glad I could provide some "support services." Support is my job, after all.

I also feel compelled to mention that I'm a big advocate of Open Source and active in the Linux world, and I'd be thrilled to see what could be done with a Linux version of the UVHI. I understand you have plans for such an animal. How do you intend to implement the character/voice features without MSAgents support? Or have you already abandoned MSAgents in favor of something integrated?

Or perhaps more to the point (and slightly O-T), for those here who have already been developing in Linux environments: if your projects have included Agent-like capabilities, have you built them from scratch, or are you using packages that are already available? If the latter, which ones (my web searches have turned up very little)?

Yes. A Linux version is indeed in our plans, but not for now. To time consuming to get the same SAPI5 API and voice recognition quality under Linux. Also, our face recognition was made just for windows, as well as all the fast 2D rendering system that we create from scratch and Linux cannot handle so far.

We donīt use MSAgent. Our Denise engine was create by us from scratch, offering all the stuff MSAgent does not, like 16 million colors, SAPI5 under XP, multiple animation while talking, use of 24 visemes for lip-syncing against just 7 in MSAgents what gives a much more realistic mouth and lips sync, a much faster engine with photo-realistic high resolution images etc..

Denise mesh was build by me in 3DMax and ZBrush, and some of her morphs were made in Poser than exported to Zbrush again. Her textures were made by my team from very high resolution pictures we took from a living female model. I have a topic here http://www.vrconsulting.it/vhf/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=342 that shows a little bit of her mesh construction.

Yes Guile. We here applaud your magnificent work. I just wish I had been good (as in expert) enough to contribute.

Thats not true Jim. I have heard several precious advices from you these past years, and I thank you for them. Actually, you gave me the right directions to my face recognition algorithm, not to mention all the kind words of support and wisdom. Stay with us!

Today we have finished the total conversion of our 2D and AI Engine to Embarcadero RAD Studio Delphi 2010.

This is a great milestone for my team and I. From now, we have some more testing, many small improvements, fixing bugs and polishing every module.

Because I want to have a initial version in at least 6 languages, I'm still working in the localization routines. I will probably ask for help here for translations corrections for French, Italian and German.

Still no date to release the initial Beta, but things look real good

I was working today on a great feature of our engine, that is touch and gesturing control.

I am pretty sure very soon everyone will have a touch screen device, and controlling Denise with touch and gesture is so much fun.

Some examples:

- Drawing a letter "E" with your fingers on the screen will make Denise check for e-mail
- an "M" start music
- left to right skip music
- down to up increases volume
- an "O W" opens Word
- an "N" gets latest RSS news

The better part that I'm coding this features allowing user to link their own letters to some action.

Is that awesome picture part of the program?? Or are you just teasing us again? Looking good. Android has some features like what you are talking about. I've been porting Kari over since someone suggested it. The mobile market sounds more like a money maker than desktop touchscreens. I hear the HP Touchsmart (which is the new killer touchscreen PC) isn't doing "great". But I'm almost sure this will change... I think.

Here is my version of Guile's big release:

Thanks a lot Mik. Always wishing all the best for your wonderful projects too. The image is just a teaser that I like to do for a break when my brain starts to see a full body Denise alive next to me after 18 hours of program coding

I just love the specific part of this scene of Apollo 13 when things start to go all wrong and Tom Hanks looks to the "Abort" button. Oh man, how many times I had the same felling when all seemed to be doomed! but then after some time, is just easier to keep going...

Yeah, sometimes Life feels like a big Apollo 13... but "FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!"

Then again, I think being distracted by our own artist side-quests is a good thing. Gotta shut the curtains sometimes and just party with the Ai toys nobody ever sees.

Good going! And hands off that ABORT button.

"Apollo/Denise is 'GO' for 'Throttle UP'" Too, bad I'll probably not be able to afford her.

Hi to all. Hi Guile 3d. Awesome work!
I had problem with my PC.
Anyway what about providing Denise with this gadget?

It could be a good publicity also for Nokya.

Hello everybody it has been a while since last post. But I have been checking in and reading some interesting threads taking place. I'm very interested in this new Guile3D project and anyone else that has been apart of it. Noticed that there has been any update to the progress yet of this project. Can anyone tell me if there is some sort of Beta release date set or if the project will have any release date?
Thanks for your time. Hope everyone is doing well.
