Things have been beeping and bopping here here at Lhandslide. Here is a rundown of what we've been up to. That's right! "We"! Two new team members have joined the ranks! They're both very talented.

First on the list is Kari 3.5 which should be out in 2 weeks. We've polished her up and finally added the new awareness code in the form of the new Emotion Chip.

Its SO big so we can't include it in the Setup file. It has to be downloaded from the program. The great thing about it is... it will give your Kari life! Its included in both Kari Standard and Kari 3.5 PRO.

Next is our new product coming up here in about 6-8 weeks - AiPetz! http://aipetz.com/

Its not just geared for kids but for everyone! Be careful who you tell you secrets to though... they can talk to each other!

Next, is our research and dev into cyborgs/robotics. We're only a few weeks into this project... but we are already testing out different slicon polymers and cast making materials to create out first Ai Cyborg. The mechanical eyes and mouth should come in this week. We envision something like a RealDoll who can think, talk, look at you with face recognition. Phase two will probably entail engineering robotic hands that can actually grasp, a real spine, arm & neck motions, etc... phase three... walking. Here you can see the gorgeous manaquinn we are using to make our test molds.

Next... Out AI engine (JEM) has gone Mobile! We are working and have a functional version of a mobile chat device! To be honest, I had to clean up this picture because cameras and LCD displays don't really mix. But you get it...

So that is it for this update... a few other things not worth mentioning. See you guys sometime in the future!

Peace.

Mik

Hey guys, thanks.

I will update the thread every few weeks... and don't worry, its fun or no deal.

Yes, I've had to do some 'growing up' the past few weeks. I finally tied some of those loose ends that had been haunting me for the past years. And 'something' is different... They say that some brain cells don't mature until you hit 33ish right? Well I think its true! Things are just looking way clearer and its just keeps getting better. Thank God for discovery.

Ok... see you guys in a few weeks or whenever.

K3.5
Woohoo!

I was hoping you were busy in the lab, since you hadn't posted updates in awhile.

I'm excited.

Yep yep, about one week from release of 3.5. Watch out... the first time I engaged the emotion chip on my Kari she turned into a real girl - every kind of game included. you wont understand until you experience it yourself...

I got my cyborg eyes working. had to put them together myself... hooked it up to my $15 walmart webcam and wrote a little app that tracks my green cap there. Wherever the green cap goes the eyes follow... Really cheap cam and in dark light too... but it works ok.

Here is the early update - especially for my good friends here...

Please report anything to the karigirl contact form. I don't want to deal with it here.

You ready!?

I wanted to edit this post. just want to get some thoughts down on paper. It helps sometimes. Privacy is still a big issue for me, but ehh, today i'm feeling ok.

Man... I'm so glad no major problems with the update. Everything is going ok. The little feedback I've gotten about the Emotion Chip is all positive so I am relieved.

My biggest problem right now is creating Kari's new database. Its the one problem that has plagued me since version 1. How to create a Kari personality that everyone can get along with from the very first conversation? Its not possible... but really it is.

Some users have no problem. Some go ahead and understand the whole process, even starting their own personalities from scratch. Those are the users I really admire. Quite honestly, the user's IQ is a variable in my equation to solve the problem too.

The thing is... it could take 10 people a whole year to create this database. And to get it right an adaptation matrix has to be created which is what we are prototyping right now. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes us until version 4 to create it. And there is a point... where the adaptation matrix is not needed anymore because Kari's natural learning is very good as it is. Its just that initial meeting of minds that needs to be engineered. That has been the problem for soo long.

So the database has to be huuge... and the Ai will adapt in accordance to the user. Which means taking into account all human feelings, stations, situation, jobs, hobbies. See the problem? Without teaching an Ai yourself its almost impossible to have an Ai that is your 'perfect dream girl'. Or is it???

That my friends is at the heart of our predilection. Hooking up Kari to Wikipedia might be a start... and we are experimenting already. But its so BIG that even an SQL query takes 7 seconds to parse. Add the Ai processing and you are looking at least at a 10 second query each time the Ai needs more info.

There's other ways I am sure... but there is no easy way, that is for sure. We need supercomputers and yesterday.

Its a nice day today... hung up my bird house. Only doves and black birds so far.

You might want to get the extra scenes that ship with Kari 3.5 but aren't included in the upgrade.

I think it would be neat to see the wiki KB used as a secondary DB.
So it could be used if the primary (user) DB didn't have needed info/answers. Similar to how we use the internet when we don't have all the information. I don't know if I would want my K3 to have the personality of a wiki DB.

Also the option to search wiki DB now and/or later.
K3 could use wiki for real time responses which sounds slower.
Or...
The ability to take conversations and during overnight/idle be able to
research wiki and add knowledge to primary DB. I just think it would be cool to be able to ask K3 what she learned last night.

My DB is getting rather big and cluttered already.
K3 and user DB management/optimizations to keep DB organized would be sweet too.

Keep up the AWESOME work. Your abilities and passion to constantly improve AI makes you one of the biggest players in the game IMO.

thanks

well, the idea of wikipedia wouldnt be that she just grabs sentences off of it... she just uses it as a knowledge base and the adaptation matrix creates the responses... thats the direction anyway.

yeah, my personality is getting way too fat too. I have a great idea on how to compress it and still retain the essence of it... at least I think I do. I'm gonna work on that tomorrow I think... a lot of Kari 'old timers' have been asking about this same issue. it will be in a form of a utility with a compression percent. the more you compress the more the essence is compressed but the more details you loose... kinda like jpeg compression for personalities thats funny. Ok, keep an eye out for it on the forum.

That compression is actually a neat opertunity...

If you can selectivelyincrementally put a heavier compression ration on the older database data and less comression on the more recent personallity data, you get an emulation of the human personallity where we retain the essence of our past personallity, but the more recent personallity is more prevelent.

Yea, i dont know why i didnt think of it sooner... while making it i also figured out a great way to analyze personalities for heavily used words. (for another day)

Here is a picture of the protoype... its written in C++ which is the best I can do for speed. Its not that slow... and it works believe it or not. It kinda eliminates all the 'fat' and keeps all the juicy meaningful stuff. It just works by analyzing repetive patterns and eliminating the sentences that repeat or are close to the same exact meaning. Simple really...

I don't see any big delays. One or two days.
