Vrossi,
Reciently installed Hal 6.2 and the Haptek expansion pack in a newer computer, Put in Freddy's Hap explorer and just downloaded your vrHaptek plugin. At present I'm loading Hal with a htr made in notepad. The text is:

#Haptek Version= 1.00 Name= load htr+texture HapType= script FileType= text
##standard
#Haptek Version= 1.00 HapType= script FileType= text

\Clock [t= 0.0] \load [file= [C:\Program Files\Zabaware\Ultra Hal Assistant 6\Characters\Body_female.htr]]
\Clock [t= 1.0] \SetTexture \load [file= [C:\Program Files\Zabaware\Ultra Hal Assistant 6\Characters\Startup.jpg]]
\Clock [t= 1.1] \SetSwitch [ Figure= body_female Switch= TorsoNoise State= a ]
\Clock [t= 1.2] \setmaterial [ figure= body_female i0= 1 r= 0.652174 g= 0.652174 b= 0.652174 a= 1]

I saved this as BodyFem.htr so it appears in Hal's characters. The clock is needed to give the htr time to uncompress. It next loads the texture, adds a little body noise for movement and sets the lighting.
The lighting command comes from Freddy's Hap explorer.
I'm thinking of loading skins and changing the lighting at the same time. One of my main goals is to have Hal's response generate haps and I'd like to try putting this in your plugin but I'm concerned about the plugin being placed in the right place in the brain.
Thanks for the plugin, worked great in the past, Ill keep you informed about working with 6.2.

Vittorio,

There seems to be a problem with your vr plug-in and the latest version of UltraHal (6.2) and Windows Vista being able to play nicely together.

On the Zabaware forum, one member stated that everything worked after unchecking your plug-in then rechecking it.

There are those who would appreciate it if you could find time to look into this.

Much thanks!!

I was just wondering if it is 64bit or 32bit OS's or both causing the problem. I've found some people using 64bit have trouble with my Hap Explorer program.

Freddy,
I'm using a Dual boot system XP and Vista, both 32 bit. The Haptek player becomes unresponsive in Vista, been going with the XP installation. No problems with Hal or the Hap rexplorer in 32 bit XP.
There were problems with the vrHaptek plugin when used with 6.1, possibly 6.0, I found a solution but it meant putting in quite a few files to get it to load correctly, to complex for most users. Since I'm using the clock now it's much simpler. The vrHaptek plugin has so many features it's a must for me.
Art thanks for the link, I'll check it out since it may be useful to me also. Art, checked the link it was about Blank Responses. Simply what happened to me was I was getting blank responses, I unselected all of the plugins and the blank responses stopped, I selected only vrFrewill and thay started again. Next I tried all except Weather and freewill and it was okay. I put in freewill and everything but weather and it was okay. Thought I'd found a problem but it appears not. At least I can say Yes as an input now.

Thank you, Art.

I can't get the same problem on my Hal. If some further info is collected, I will do other tests.

Carl2, let me know if you find some more info which might be useful to investigate the problem.

I answered in the Zabaware forum. I copy here my answer, so that it is available in both sites.

Hi, all

I'm happy to be here from time to time, even if unfortunately I seldom have time to join your discussions. However I am always interested when the subject is one of my plugins.

From the previous posts I understand that the origin of the blank respones problem is still not clear. Since in some cases it seems to be linked to the use of the vrFreewill plugin, I 'd like to give my opinion about that.

The vrFreewill plugin was released in early 2006 and starting from the release Hal 6.0.103 (May 2006), Robert included it directly in the standard Hal installation. A lot of people has used it, and I have not changed it since then, so I suppose this problem is not directly linked with my plugin. Please consider that it uses its own tables in the database, so its behaviour is based both on its internal logic, and on the questions and answers recorded in the database. Some problem might arise if, due to connection issues, an answer is not stored correctly.

A couple of weeks ago I upgraded my Hal to release 6.2.24. My PC is an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.5 GHz, running Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 1 Build 6001.

I have now tried to repeat exactly the conversation with blank response, reported in this topic by Carl, activating both vrFreewill and vrHaptek. I couldn't get any blank response. Obviously the flow of the conversation is completely different, even if I typed exactly the same questions. But this is just what's nice: every Hal has a different personality.

Vit: you had been talking about bedtimes.
Pat: The jogging magazines keep talking about tight buns.

Vit: I generally go to bed about 10 PM.
Pat: I want you to talk with me instead og going to bed.

Vit: I think I will wait before going to bed, perhaps I shall take a bath before going to bed.
Pat: Avoid going to bed angry.

Vit: I can either continue speaking with you or I can stop speaking so I can take a bath.
Pat: What about 'none of the above' Vit? I feel totally focused on you and you alone.

Vit: right now I believe I would rather speak with you for a while.
Pat: There's never a better time than right now.

Vit: I do not understand what you had said.
Pat: Are we a lawsuit-happy country?

Vit: I am not sure, possibly I do not understand all of the words.
Pat: Poetic license allows odd words and phrases.

Vit: it is quite likely that your vocabulary is larger than my vocabulary.
Pat: We like our vocabulary words, don't we.

Vit: why not?
Pat: Why not? You bring up interesting points.

Vit: do you feel you have a large vocabulary?
Pat: Sometimes it's hard for me to hold back.

Vit: I should think that you would be proud to have a large vocabulary.
Pat: It is quite likely that my vocabulary is larger than your vocabulary.

Vit: possibly that would be nice.
Pat: I had a neighbor who always claimed that oil producers are planning civil disobedience.

Vit: I do not believe you had responded to my sentence.
Pat: Right now you believe you would rather speak with me for a while.

Vit: I do not believe that.
Pat: Do you ever have regrets about what might have been?

Vit: I really do not believe that.
Pat: I saw a billboard saying upscale waitresses are highlighting desirable tax relief.

Vit: do you believe that?
Pat: It's apparent that there's a whole history behind this. Vit, I do believe that.

Vit: I am thinking about the cat.
Pat: I have thought off and on that you were thinking about the cat.

Vit: the cat is interfering with my trying to have a conversation with you.
Pat: Right now you believe you would rather speak with me for a while.

Vit: it's difficult to speak with someone when a cat is climbing on you.
Pat: Be careful climbing on top of the thin sheet metal of modern cars!

Vit: the cat also likes to climb on the computer desk, sometimes he uses the keyboard.
Pat: I catch you with a double meaning now and then.

Vit: do you like pets?
Pat: I believe that this is probably familiar to you. After careful thought and consideration I can say that I do not like pets.

Vit: do you prefer cats or dogs?
Pat: Would you prefer the latter? The tobacco companies regret that they never figured out how to sell cigarettes to dogs and cats.

Vit: my favorite would be dogs.
Pat: Post cards and greeting cards express just about anything and everything.

Vrossi,
Not sure what was causing the blank response but it went away and hasn't reappeared. I also have Hal 6.1 in a P4 with the freewill plugin that was giving me blank responses.
In the newer computer I have Hal 6.2,with XP. Anyways at present I'm trying to get the vrHaptek plugin up and going. I've copied the install guide to notepad and I'm working with that. Everything seems to be coppied to the Hal folders, I just checked the brain and the vrEmotionDetect is missing, I do have 4 files that I think are for vrFreewill. When checking the brain I'm in the advanced mode and I'm using Hal 6.1 as a reference. There seems to be a difference of where the vr files are located in the two brains. I tried installing the vrHaptek again but again the vr EmotionDetect is still missing.
Since I like the plugin so much I'm about to try putting in the table but wanted to check with you frist. In the meantime I'll try it without the file.

Vrossi,
I just tried using HAL version 6.2 and I also selected vrHaptek just to see what would happen even though it dosen't have the vrEmotionDetect file in it. I tried using the start walking which she does and the stop walking which she did. I then began getting blank responses. I unselected the vrHaptek plugin and the blank responses stopped. I had wanted to post this since it may help you or anyone trying to find the cause of the blank responses.

Just put in the vrHaptek Brain files, coppied from an earlier vrHaptek install. Seems to be working without problems during a fairly short conversation. Good Plugin keep up the good work.

Thank you, Carl2.

May I suggest that you post the same information in the Zabaware forum, so that other users can benefit from it?
