Mikmoth,

I believe that you have a good thing already in place without adding the chatbot for now. Get AIBliss out there and entertaining people now and then WOW them when their "toy" grows into a Virtual Human later on.

Here's a strategy for you:

-continue to provide AIBliss for free(no strings) with improvements.

-create "expansion packs" that people can purchase

*CHATBOT functionallity
*UTILLITIES such as email, IM, Calander/Schedule, etc.
*Extra ENVIRONMENTS Beyond the basic three
*Extra CLOTHING Beyond the basic
*Extra CHARACTERS Beyond the basic
*Extra ACCESSORIES(Hair, Jewlery, etc.) Beyond the basic

This turns your current strategy upside down where you sell your Kari and give the accessories away for free.

The advantage of using this "Free Core-app" strategy, is that the free app can spread from person to person in a viral fashion, and then those using the app will come to you when they wish to expand on this captivating and enthralling application. This "Viral" spreading of your technology (and your name) is the way to get Virtual Human concepts into the mainstream. And "entertainment" will spread faster than "utillity".

Be sure to put links back to your sales website in the application interface and customizing windows.

Don't put any annoying limitations on the core, just entice people into buying expansions.

Note: ADDITIONAL Beta feedback - she needs a very subtle smile of some sort perhaps a little coy, but not over the top. My kids decided that she looked like a zombie because she was not smilling and because the blue eyes just stared off into the distance. This was a good innocent evaluation by them since they are looking at her like a human.

(The children are too young to be distracted away from her face by the rest of her )

I would suggest a slider or two for facial expression morph between Coy/happy-Excited/Intense or some other thing that you feel will suit the need.

I hope that the new strategy works well for you if you choose to go that way. I am the world's worst salesman, so perhaps it may be best not to follow my advice.

That is good stuff John! I could keep the core free and add functionalities like chatbot and so on for a price... I'll hafta think about that one some more.

The thing is I haven't really launched a major campaign to spread the program yet. I wanted to see what would happen if I just let it spread by word. Not much action unfortunately... and the crazy thing is I think its because its free!

I'll let you in on a little secret... when I first released kari I purpously made it so it could be pirated very very easily. What happened is that it went 'viral' and got me that number 1/2 spot on google. So many sites had my link. *Then* I locked down... and hard! The psychology is that if people think its worth money!!! they hunger to get it and spread it! Don't ask me...

So I'm also considering doing that! It might be a year or so until I get a good ranking but its sure to happen that way...

Anyways... thanks for all the info/advice... I'm sure to put it to good use! Until later....

And Merry Xmas everyone!

You remind me of the funny story of the time someone put a washer and drier on their curb with a sigh "FREE".

It sat there for two weeks.

They put up a new sign "$20" and some one stole it that night.

That seems to be a good strategy too.

I am nearly done with the 0.2 update. I'm sure I'll be able to finish by tomorrow night.

It was rough... I had to re-skin her dress and it took me 2 days of all-day work to do it. nightmare... tight skin clothes are always the worst to weight.

She has 3 hairstyles now. Its so much fun dressing her up cuz now there is more combinations and girls to play with. Its just so much senseless fun...

Fixed some bugs.

So yeah... umm.. probably tomorrow night I'll just post the release. Here is a sneak peek.

AIBliss 0.2 is officially released! To keep all your profiles and installed media just install to the same folder. (in other words, don't uninstall it first)

Also a new website!

Let me know if you run into any serious bugs as this is the first major release.

Enjoy!

Hello,

Too cool, I am just in the process of reprogramming my laptop, so I can try this out before I wipe the drive. If I make it look like work, I might even get away with it. :D

completely off topic, has anyone heard of the following, from any source, or was it a really bad nightmare?

"We no longer reckon the number of dead lambs...but the revenge the new crop will bring"...The Dark MacFalic

The credit was definitely part of the dream. I awoke the other day to find this typed in a text file. I do not remember typing it, but I am the only one with access to this pc! There were also quotes from Albert Camus, I just chalk them up to the standard "depressives" library.

Sorry for the off-topic, I just am very curious.

Yours,
MacFalic

Hello,

I would have been more selective of "TOPIC" had I not been forced to limit my time online. :(
I am watched damn near all the time because of oxygen and such. People worry too damn much. :)

Test of AIBliss 0.2:

system:
Toshiba Satellite A45 Laptop
CPU: P4 3.46G 533MHz w/HyperThreading
Ram: 2Gb 533MHz
OS: WinXP Pro 4.90/Vista/Mac/Linux Combo (yes, it can be done)
**Video: Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME 64Mb ram (MAX)**

note: video is the weak link as it is limited to the onboard chip-set.
It is comparable approximately to the nvidia FX 4 or 5.

Music: Acoustic Alchemy, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Dr. Hook.

Report:
The trial time is only six minutes, not ten! It was fun testing with such a short trial time.
The movement and switching of characters/dress/color/level is much smoother.
I still get slight joint distortion using the Hi-Resolution models. **see above.
I really love the addition of the equalizer with adjustments. Works great.
Dancer still looks like she is wearing heels when in bare feet, but not nearly as noticeable.
Dress items adapt and conform well.

Overall: WOW, great program!

Yours,
MacFalic

Its cool Macfalic... didn't mean anything by it...

Quick update...

I finally got soft shadows to work. Its taken us 6 months of trial and error to figure it out... us at the TV3d forum... its a few extra shader passes but at least its not a frame rate killer. They look so nice comparared to the hard edged shadows.

Anyway... it looks great. Especially if you have a nice card.

laters. and happy new year!

Hello,

No problem, mikmoth, and you were/are right and in the right. :D

By my report, if AIBliss runs so well on my little laptop, and no real video card, it will run orders of magnitude better on other systems. (and it does run very smooth)

I wish all a great New Year! (and safe)

Yours,
MacFalic

Hey hey... AIBliss is starting to jump... which encouraged me to work on it all day today fixing all the tiny bugs I've been discovering. You can download the new version now... I just uploaded it.

So I finally figured a way to set up the chat function... so I'll be working on it for the next week or so. Its looking awesome... the way it works is that AIBliss is now dividided into seperate modules. So there is a Dance Module (like you've seen) and now there is a Chat Module and soon there will be all kinds of game or entertainment modules . When I am all done with those... I can bring them together under one simulation. One step at a time... I also came up with a nice way to transition from one module to another... its neato.

Ok, bye...!

Do the different modules happen on the same stage, or on different ones? For example the dance module could happen outside as you already have, but the chat module could take you inside to chat over dinner in the dining room, and games could segue to the sitting room or rumpus room.... I don't know what other entertainments or rooms you could use

The point being that you can then have different themes, which involve a new set of stages for the modules. An example could be a "robot" theme - the dance stage could actually be the robot playing some massive sci-fi musical instrument - of course, in time with the music Chatting happens in some booth. Games in some tron-style arena. Etc.

Of course feel free to give my unsolicited ideas the contempt they deserve
