Naa... We're already pushing the polycount. Maybe in a few more months we'll get to polishing once we get out of Beta. We're still in Alpha. And the Ai and code instrumentation is more important right now.

Lol... I have them all dancing to Peacekeeper. No visible slow down in my FPS using an 8800 GT. But it did crash when I tried 15 girls!

Today I was working on grass clumping for AiBliss.

I needed a nice way to plop some grass on the ground and make it look realistic. The Oblivion grass was my inspiration.

Anyway, what I did was make a cool little function that places random looking clumps of grass wherever I wanted.

You start with a point and place your first blade of grass. Then you pick a random number between 1 and 8 - each relates a direction - north, northwest, west, southwest, etc. You place another blade. You randomly pick another 1-8 direction from that position, place another. What you get is a neat little line of grass. You do this 5 to 10 times from the original starting spot and you get a really nice looking clump of grass.

So then the grass needs to wave in the wind. Well... ok. Here is a little movie. Its better than me rambling on.

I'm also devoting this week to proper path-finding and object interaction and orientation, so that, the characters can find a path towards an objects, position themselves correctly, and interact with the object - whatever it may be.

I'm also thinking of making a world editor so that people can make their own objects, and animations... release the characters skeleton, base anims, and meshes... make the media open-source so that anyone with a little 3d skill can make their own worlds.

That's the goal anyways... we'll get there!

Here is another movie of grass. Right now I'm trying compact clumps. But I can easily make them more fluffy by adding more value between the distance of each blade.

Also playing with Fraps... it's a really good 3D movie capture tool. Its working better great cuz I'm rendering to a solid state drive and I think the new NVidia drivers are working.

btw, there was a big NVidia snafoo a few weeks ago. I was a victim of these faulty drivers. The new drivers fix whatever was giving me low FPS. So if you're getting really slow frame rate... might wanna grab the new drivers for your card.

mik, great product!

i think you are on to something big with this one: developing AI in the environment of its own! Most bots are set outside of context. We, humans, developed to reflect our environment. Even if you take us out of our environments, we still carry bits and pieces of it inside. Also, the more complex the environment, the more "complex" we are.

So here you have your girl, and the island (and the ocean, and the sky, a sailboat, a butterfly, etc.) These are the objects that the bot can (learn to) observe (and manipulate?). Having an interactive environment changes so much - it gives the whole experience a context. No more chatting in a vacuum! In fact, it's pretty hard to go back to that vacuum after you've been to the island. :) Amazing work, Mik.

No pressure :) but please keep working day and night on this, OK? ;)

Ooh. Nice avatar Adrushka.

Well, I have something like 15 current projects going. AiBliss gets more attention than most... but encouragement goes a long way! You just bought yourself 10 days of AiBliss development!

We won't be stuck on an island for too much longer. There are new levels coming. I'm thinking a jungle or a forest. Then a bar and disco club. Houses and apartments. Space stations. Midievel fantasy game. A film-noir type adventure. And Indiana jones escapade. All with Ai characters who you need to talk to and who you can teach.

Ok, so... we're looking at a year or two. but it's coming...!

its interesting... if you start with a "naughty" personality you and her will evolve differently than if you start a personality based on oh... philosophy.

A new personality reaches deep inside for the appropriate thing to say based on her limited knowledge. And the human, usually sticks with his virtual partner so won't say anyting too "out of the park". It's definately a relationship... they stick together (human and Ai). So you never know where you are going to end up in a few months.

Remember, you can start a new personality... Menu>New Personality from scratch.

Here is a sneak peek at the new DressingRoom/Character Control.

Since we're dealing with more than one character now, I've integrated the personality control and dressing room into one area.

You can make as many new girls as you want, assign each a unique personality and looks, set her voice, etc, plus you have a nice little 3D window to instantly see what she looks like.

I'm not sure what to do about the black background. I could just render the environment or a background image or maybe some props. Not sure just yet. Maybe it's fine fow now...

Oh yeah, new skin... AiBliss ships with 26 different skins.
