I cross-posted this on AI Nexus, but I think the forum userbases are mostly disjoint, so hopefully there's no harm in reposting here...

For those who can't afford Richard Wallace's SuperBot listing the most common patterns that get activated on Alice, I've posted something that might be of some use: the most common 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-word phrases in some 100+MB of IRC chats, sorted by frequency: http://floatingcontinent.com/irc/ . A friend did the data collection, and I wrote a little script to pull out the most frequent phrases.

The IRC files were stripped of punctuation and converted to lowercase, so these files include a few unrecognizable emoticons (the 4th-most common one-word phrase is "p", as a result of all the ":-p"s and ":P"s in the original data). There are also a lot of weird things in there, as some commonly repeated phrases include unusual sigs and commands to room-specific IRC bots. Still, there are plenty of legitimate templates that might be worthwhile to get a bot to respond to, including many that aren't in the original Alice. Obviously more useful for IRC chatbots than general-purpose ones, but maybe of interest anyway.

I just tried the link provided and it says it's a newspaper distribution site now. Any way to get that orginal file still?

Oh hey, glad someone's interested in it. I don't own that domain anymore, so I've put 'em up for you here instead:

There's some weird stuff in there partly as a result of a few odd phrases being in people's sigs and the like, but should have many useful phrases nonetheless.
