I've published a new chatbot, based on Pandorabots and a MediaSemantics avatar.

It still requires some refinement but you can try it at www.droidsland.com

Any comment is welcome.

Hi Vit :)

Would you like me to add her to the Chatterbot Collection yet ?

I found she did not reply to some questions. Just curious about the fee, do you get more options ? I'm just trying to see a reason to pay when there are hundreds of similar free bots out there.

All the best :)

Hi Freddy,

I would really like to see my bot in your collection.

I have made a lot of changes to the original Pandorabots AIML files, which contain plenty of errors and questionable sentences, but clearly there are still many patterns to fix. Please tell me which specific questions did not receive a reasonable answer.

As you may notice, the text-only interface is free, while the animated character with TTS is limited to a few answers. Both MediaSemantics and SitePal ask 39.95$ for 15,000 monthly audio streams, so you can't give away this option for free, unless you have some other form of revenue. I've made a test, leaving the animated bot free for a couple of days, and I found that a single user had been talking with her for about three hours, using more than 1.000 audio streams.

So the fee is just a way to cover the cost of the animated character, for people interested in this option. All the other users can freely chat in text-based mode. If you have found a cheaper alternative for an animated character with a good TTS, please let me know.

I'm also planning to add some ESL-specific patterns, such as irregular verbs, as an added value to this chatbot.

Hey Vit, thanks for your reply ;)

I understand the need to charge now, thanks.

As for the bot replies, she seems to be working now, possibly just a glitch or server overload. I will let you know how it goes.

And I will add her to the collection too and hopefully get some hits for you. Would you like to provide a description of her for the collection ?

Take care my friend :)

Yes Freddy,
The Padorabots service is often unavailable or low in resources. Given it is a free service, I can't complain about its limits. There is also the option for a Shared service with guaranteed performances (http://bandore.pandorabots.com/subscription/ServiceComparison/index.html), but it's 75USD/month, which would add to the overall cost of the bot.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be easy to get an "unavailable pandorabot" message through the MediaSemantics hosting service, so that at least one can give this warning to the users. I have not tried the Sitepal service but, if I understand correctly, it includes an AIML bot on their server, which should give better performances. The downside is that the price they ask is for just one aiml bot, while MediaSemantics allows you to use as many pandorabots as you wish.

The best solution would be to install the MediaSemantics Character Server and the language TTS on my own server. However, this option has a very high startup cost due to the licences and the installation/test phase.

Here is the description:
Elizabeth is the perfect companion for practicing English as a Second Language (ESL). She will talk with you, using an English accent, about thousands of subjects. She is not a teacher, but you can learn a lot from her.

Thanks Vit, sorry it took me a while, but Elizabeth is now in the collection. Here is her page :

http://www.chatterbotcollection.com/item_display.php?id=3114

She will appear on the homepage probably for a few weeks too.

And may I just apologise for being too quick to judge your bot on first impressions. There aren't many avatars I have seen with quality voice I must admit.

Good luck with this venture :)

Thank you, Freddy.

Please read also this page in order to try some advanced functions which are not available in standard AIML bots: http://www.droidsland.com/index.php/help.html

Unfortunately in my page on your site there is a mispelled word:
"you can learn a lot form her" should be "you can learn a lot from her".

Hi Freddy.

I created a new chatbot, which I submitted to the 2012 Chatterbox Challenge, getting the 9th place. It was also nominated "Best New Bot".

There is a specific site for it; could you please add it to your Chatterbot Collection ?

If you wish you may remove Elizabeth, which will not be further developed.

This is its description:

Susan

This chatbot represents Dr. Susan Calvin, from Asimov's Robot Series.
She was the chief robopsychologist at the major manufacturer of robots in the 21st century and was the main character in several books and stories written by Isaac Asimov.
Susan has been nominated "Best new bot" at the 2012 Chatterbox Challenge.

Hi Vit,

I got your email, but thanks for reminding me - I added Susan to the collection just now. She can be found here :

http://www.chatterbotcollection.com/item_display.php?id=3115

Thanks for providing those details. I took the liberty of taking a screen shot of Susan, I hope that is okay - I think it's nice to see what they look like and if there is a photo she will also appear in the gallery section.

Just want to say I think you did a nice job on her site, looks very nice, good work. Best of luck with this new bot :)

I have marked Elizabeth as no longer being developed.

Cheers :)
