Erwin Van Lun is the founder and administrator of Chatbots.org, which in my opinion is currently the best site about this subject.

We had a nice conversation a few days ago and we agreed to set up some kind of partnership, whose details are still to be defined.

He has opened a post in his site about this idea and is already getting some interesting comments ( http://www.chatbots.org/ai_zone/viewthread/516/ ).

I would like to get here your comments and maybe some more general suggestion about how we could expand and improve our Virtual Humans Forum.

Hi there, Everyone!

My name is Dave Morton, and I'm an active member/moderator at chatbots.org. I think that the idea of VHF and CBO (oh, BOY! New acronyms!) joining forces for mutual benefit is a great idea, and one that I whole-heartedly want to make happen. I've actually been a member here for over a year now, but got out of the habit of visiting because when I first stopped by, I was a "wet behind the ears" newb, and many of the discussions here were just a little too far beyond my ability to take advantage of. Much has changed in this past year, and the knowledge I've gained has given me a good foundation upon which I would like to build, and VHF is now a good resource for me. :) If there's anything that I can do to help strengthen the relationship between our two sites, I'm more than happy to pitch in. Just ask.

As far as suggestions on how to accomplish this worthwhile task, here are my thoughts. Perhaps they may spark an idea or two:

1.) Each forum has their own focus as to discussion topics, and they (in general) differ considerably, with little real overlap. Perhaps someone could spend a little time each day (or several someone's?) looking through the new posts, and creating "cross-site" links, if discussions happen to coincide. Perhaps there's some insight in a post here that may help in the discussion over at CBO, or vice-versa. Just a thought.

2.) Each site also has their "resident experts" in various subjects. While I'm not an "expert" in any subject by any stretch of the imagination, I feel that I have a smattering of knowledge (usually, just enough to pose a threat to myself) in a wide variety of areas, and I'm always looking for ways to stretch and expand my knowledge wherever I can. If we made use of an "expert exchange", where a member from CBO posts a short but informative thread in their area of expertise, inviting discussion, while a member of VHF does the same over at CBO. I'm not talking about a 20,000 word article or anything like that, but, say, 250~500 words might be nice. :)

3.) I know that the vast majority of members, both here and at CBO, are busy people, and have demanding, time consuming jobs/careers, that don't leave a whole lot of time to enjoy haunting the forums as I do (ah, the joys of a non-existent social life!), so finding that extra five to ten minutes to post a new thread, or even to respond to an existing one, is often times more than most are able to squeeze in, but I'll make you all a deal: If you can just add an extra five minutes to your day, I'll do everything in my power (meager though it is) to make it worth your while. No, I won't wax your turtles, or feed the goldfish for you, but I do promise to make what I post here as engaging and interesting as I can (maybe even entertaining, at times... Who knows?).

Great suggestions, Dave

During the next few weeks I will reorganize the VHF in order to accomodate your ideas. Meanwhile please feel free to begin working here according to these strategies.
